President Ranil Wickremesinghe has thrown down the gauntlet to his rival candidates, Sajith Premadasa and Anura Kumara Dissanayake, by inviting them to a live discussion with IMF officials. The President's bold move comes after both the National People’s Power (NPP) and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) claimed they would amend the agreement Sri Lanka has with the IMF if they come to power.

The President also criticized the opposition’s pledge to reduce taxes, arguing that it would jeopardize the country’s goal of achieving Rs 5 trillion in revenue by 2025. "One wonders why NPP and SJB are trying to deceive people," he added.

In a move that highlights his confidence and transparency, President Wickremesinghe is openly inviting his opponents to debate these critical issues in front of the nation.
